Though I watched my mother, Carolyn Poplett, struggle with dementia in the final eight years of her life, she showed me how to lead a life worth living even in the face of physical and mental decline. All I can tell you is that in her adopted hometown of Oak Park, Illinois, among all of those who knew her, she was a big deal.
In December 2022, the Ilinois State Senate passed a resolution recognizing her many achievements as an author and a philanthropist.
